I literally knew zero things about this film going into it. I happened across 2x free tickets on Slickdeal, saw Liam Neeson on the cover, something about Japan and a “certified fresh” so I immediately clicked buy. Simply, just wow! Visually the most beautiful movie I might have ever seen. Each scene could be captured as a still and submitted in a photograph contest with a high probability of winning. So many beautiful evening scenes, shots of the rolling Japanese country side, the costumes/actors were flawless and the temples were second to none. Some interesting surprises were the length at 2:40, Adam Driver (Kylo Ren) & Andrew Garfield (Spiderman) as lead & Scorsese directing. Overall great movie but clearly not for everyone: the dialogue was slow at times and if you see this after 9pm you will fall asleep. This movie really gets you thinking about the threat new religions impose on established countries and their response when “provoked”, the risks missionaries assume introducing their beliefs (however peaceful it may seem) and the steps citizens take to hide their true beliefs. Loved the movie and a great way to start off a weekend!
